Description:

Documentary style videos and tech highlighting 101 of the most influential women in the Jazz history

Challenge:

Create dynamic visual signage that passively informs airport goers of each artist's life and legacy

Solution:

Create dynamic visual signage that passively informs airport goers of each artist's life and legacy.

Deliverable 1:

'Truth_be_told'

Description:

35-minute biopic, highlighting 4 of the most legendary women of jazz - Alberta Hunter, Lil Hardin Armstrong, Melba Liston, & Maxine Sullivan.

I was given a small selection of historical photos from each artist and used them to create a title sequence to catch eyes and attract attention. I then placed a photo of each artist and cut their stories up in a shuffle for the video.

Deliverable 2:

'IN conversation'

Description:

'In Conversation' is a visualized conversation between legendary musicians Mary Lou Williams and Geri Allen as they recount their careers and the struggles they faced.

Much like the Truth Be Told video, I created a colorful title sequence that was intersperced throughout the video to attract attention and set the tone.

I collected photos and clips of each artist and created a loop that plays while the 2 women have their converstion. The highlight of this was having Mary Lou Williams' nephew coming through and being so excited about the video.

Deliverable 3:

Touchscreen_music_book

Description:

One of the center pieces of the show was an elaborate digital music book that housed a photo, bio, and music notes along with playable music from each of the 101 women artists. I created 12 unique backgrounds that randomly shuffled behind each artists portrait and designed the content CMS to filter by genre, name, and songs.

Description:

The installation includes a microsite that is accessible by scanning a QR code next to each display. We worked with the Indiana Historical Society to create a site to house more information about each artist as well as recordings, historical documents, and more from their lives. I built the site using squarespace and mimicked the look and feel of the videos to match.
